UC ANR Strategic Communications is a small (but mighty) team supporting UC ANR's more than 1,600 employees across the state in telling the ANR story, promoting the impact of the organization's work with key audiences, and extending research-based information to improve the lives of Californians.

Position Summary
The Digital Content Strategist will lead UC ANR's content governance council and enhance the quality and discoverability of our website. This position involves content curation, developing and implementing comprehensive content strategies, collaborating with stakeholders, and applying advancements in web technologies to improve the UC ANR web presence. The role relies on expertise in website design, content management systems, and digital communication. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Communications and has a significant relationship with UC ANR Information Technology (IT).

This position is a contract appointment that is 100% fixed and ends 3 years from date of hire with the possibility of extension if funding permits.

The home department for this position is Strategic Communication. While this position normally is based in Davis, CA, this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements, for applicants living in the State of California, at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University.

Pay Scale: $90,300/year to $129,700/year

Key Responsibilities:
35%Develops and implements comprehensive short and long-range strategic digital communications programs and Projects. Facilitates the organization's content governance council, ensuring effective coordination and communication among members and stakeholders. As part of the content governance council, establishes and enforces content guidelines, and supports related content curation and standards to maintain consistency and quality across the website ecosystem. Additionally, facilitates regular meetings and communications with stakeholders to gather feedback, address concerns, and align on content priorities. Includes close collaboration with UC ANR IT for the development and implementation of content governance requests.50%Researches, develops, and produces website content and supports the curation and implementation of content strategies that align with organizational goals to enhance the website's overall quality, discoverability and user experience. Regularly analyzes website data and adjusts strategy accordingly. Develops search engine optimization strategy to increase UC ANR prominence in search results for our key areas of expertise.10%Consults with management and other professionals to develop strategic digital communication plans, programs or projects to ensure that digital communication meets the organization's needs and effectively delivers the desired messages.5%Applies emerging and state-of-the-art technical and other web-related technologies, requirements and developments (for example, accessibility best practices) and recommends or implements actions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training required
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working as a content strategist, web manager and/or information architect
  • Advanced knowledge of the fundamentals of website design and implementation.
  • Experience leading, presenting to, and working with diverse, cross-disciplinary groups; sharp project management and communication skills that keep work moving forward with many stakeholders.
  • Technical experience with platforms related to digital content strategy and governance (i.e., Drupal or Wordpress, Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, content management systems) and in using knowledge of these platforms to prioritize content strategy initiatives.
  • Advanced interpersonal, verbal and written skills with ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Advanced skill in creating and supporting effective web sites.
  • Advanced skill in creating effective website content governance models.
  • Advanced Understanding of organization's processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communication.
    Special Conditions of Employment:
    • Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.
    • The University reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check. This is a designated position requiring a background check and may require fingerprinting due to the nature of the job responsibilities. UC ANR does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.

    • Exercise the utmost discretion in managing sensitive information learned in the course of performing their duties. Sensitive information includes but is not limited to employee and student records, health and patient records, financial data, strategic plans, proprietary information, and any other sensitive or non-public information learned during the course and scope of employment. Understands that sensitive information should be shared on a limited basis and actively takes steps to limit access to sensitive information to individuals who have legitimate business need to know. Ensure that sensitive information is properly safeguarded. Follow all organizational policies and laws on data protection and privacy. This includes secure handling of physical and digital records and proper usage of IT systems to prevent data leaks. The unauthorized or improper disclosure of confidential work-related information obtained from any source on any work-related matter is a violation of these expectations.
    • Misconduct Disclosure Requirement: As a condition of employment, the final candidate who accepts a conditional offer of employment will be required to disclose if they have been subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; received notice of any allegations or are currently the subject of any administrative or disciplinary proceedings involving misconduct; have left a position after receiving notice of allegations or while under investigation in an administrative or disciplinary proceeding involving misconduct; or have filed an appeal of a finding of misconduct with a previous employer.
