Job Description
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is
federally funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National
Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA/NIFA), and the 1862 and
1890 Land-Grant Universities (LGUs); operating in all states,
including the District of Columbia, and the six U.S. territories.
EFNEP is a Federal Extension (community outreach) program aimed at
reducing nutrition insecurity for low-income families and youth.
EFNEP nutrition education classes are learner-centered and provide
participants with knowledge and skills to improve their diets;
improve nutrition practices; create a healthy shopping list;
stretch a food budget; prepare, cook and store food safely; and
increase physical activity levels for an overall healthier and
nutritionally balanced lifestyle.
Position Summary:
The EFNEP Statewide Training and Communications Lead is a critical
member of the EFNEP statewide team based in Davis, CA responsible
for guiding and supporting local county teams to implement EFNEP
programming. This position engages a strong and diverse skill set
to design and deliver professional development trainings with
county-based teams, develop and execute communications strategies
to promote the program, and manage basic program data leveraging
the WebNEERS online database.
This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.

Key Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with EFNEP State Office on the development of
statewide trainings. Identify statewide training needs, including
the creation and dissemination of materials and resources.
- Under the general supervision of the EFNEP Statewide
Coordinator, implement a training program, with goals and
objectives, based upon program priorities. Training programs are to
be developed considering Nutrition Educators' culture and literacy
level, as well as learner-centered education and adult learning
theory and principles.
- Develop training resources to be used with local educators,
Program Supervisors, and CNH Advisors who work with EFNEP.
- Identify opportunities, prepare action plans, and identify
solutions related to developing and implementing training programs
for EFNEP staff.
- Collaborate with state office team, county teams, and UC ANR
departments to develop and conduct trainings on various resources
and topics.
- Works in a collaborative manner with a diverse organization
community to develop a strategic training plan for CA EFNEP.
- Serve as a champion and resource on learner-centered, and
highly interactive, virtual and in-person trainings for small and
large groups; lead by example when delivering trainings.
- Engage in continuous learning on relevant topics to delivering
a quality EFNEP program (i.e. engaging diverse communities,
national dietary and physical activity guidelines, food safety
practices, public health frameworks).

strategy for EFNEP, working collaboratively with the Statewide
EFNEP team on implementation, including newsletters, social media,
and website.
- Assist in the development and design of website content for CA

calendar for communications activities.
- Identify new opportunities to publicize EFNEP-program, events,
and activities.

- Good interpersonal communication skills, including the ability
to communicate and extend technical information in an
understandable manner for low-literacy audiences.
- Experience delivering in-person and virtual trainings to small
and large groups of adults, including experience in utilizing Zoom
platform and other interactive applications for meetings and
trainings.
- Experience in all aspects of communications, including website
design and development, newsletters, brochures, posters, postcards,

and design concepts.
- Experience with analyzing social media analytics and
