Job Summary


Under supervision of the PI will work as a member of a parasitology research team charged with isolation, diagnosis and characterization of parasites from diverse clinical and environmental samples. Provide technical support and intellectual contribution on clinical diagnostics and research projects pertaining to animal and human parasitic pathogens. Develop new assays that are relevant to veterinary patients as well as support of ongoing research projects and contribution to future projects through grant writing. Supervision of students, laboratory management, and technical tasks (e.g. nucleic acids extraction, PCR assays and sequence analysis). Laboratory maintenance duties such as cleaning and sterilizing glassware and disposing of waste. RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis.   • Advanced degree focused on the field of parasitology or equivalent.High level of experience and proficiency with standard parasitology detection techniques commonly applied in veterinary diagnostic laboratories.Experience with sequence analysis using software such as Geneious.Advanced knowledge of parasitology species of veterinary importance, including host range and identification via microscopy.Skills to extract nucleic acids, and isolate DNA from a variety of clinical and environmental samples for detection of parasites including helminths and protozoa.Skills in designing primers for development and validation of new molecular assays such as PCR for parasite detection.Skills in microscopical identification of parasite ova in feces of small, large and exotic pet animal species.Preferred Qualifications
    Skills to troubleshoot and optimize protocols and assays.Skills in designing experiments for validating new PCR assays including parasite stock preparations and spiking into diverse matrices such as feces or tissue.Skills to purify DNA for sequencing including gel extraction and purification as well as column purification assays. kills in preparing purified DNA for sequencing including primer dilutions, DNA dilution, and online form submission.
